    Experimental study of skin wettability modifcation by cold atmospheric pressure plasma

    In the present master thesis the modification of the wettability of the human Stratum Corneum surface by means of cold atmospheric pressure plasma is experimentally investigated. An atmospheric pressure plasma reactor is employed. Its function is based on a coaxial dielectric barrier discharge producing simultaneously atmospheric pressure guided streamers. The driving voltage is either sinusoidal or pulsed, and the working gas is pure helium. Human Stratum Corneum samples are subjected to the produced atmospheric pressure guided streamers for different treatment times, and the chemical modification of their surfaces is evaluated by means of contacts angle measurements, calculation of free surface energy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis.
