Abstract
Twenty-six temperature and precipitation indices were calculated in this study, according to ETCCDI (Expert Team on Climate Change Detection and Indices), for the period 1960-2010 in 56 stations over Greece. Those presenting statistically significant trend, according to Mann-Kendall statistical test, were further analyzed. Seven indices were significant for more than 40 % of the stations and ten for more than 30 %. Regarding temperature ones, the trend of TR20, TXN, TXX, TX90p, WSDI and TN90p was positive while TN10p, TX10p was negative in almost all stations. For precipitation indexes, negative trend was calculated in PRCPTOT, R10, CWD and positive in CDD for most cases. Maximum and minimum temperatures are moving towards higher values and precipitation decreases in amount and number of wet days. For the two subperiods of 1960-1976 and 1977-2010, cumulative distribution functions were calculated to confirm an observed general cooling in the first and a general warming in the second. Finally, to detect abrupt changes in the indices timeseries Pettit test was performed.
