This diploma thesis focuses on the users' sentiment analysis and opinion mining on data derived from the social platform of Twitter. Through Twitter, users are given the opportunity to read posts (the well-known "tweets") of others, while posting their own. Due to the large number of users that access the platform, the scientific community has taken great advantage of Twitter, by analyzing the data that are published on it. The case examined in this thesis is that of the pandemic of COVID-19. COVID-19 is an infectious disease with its first recorded cases identified in late 2019, while on March of 2020 it was declared as a pandemic. The outbreak of the disease has led to a sharp increase in posts and comments from social media users, with a plethora of emotions being found in them. The ultimate purpose of this thesis is the classification of the users' emotions from posts related to COVID-19 that originate from Twitter. In order to accomplish this, the data are processed and analyzed linguistically with the use of several natural language techniques. The sentiment analysis and opinion mining were implemented by utilizing Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network, which is a recurrent neural network capable of learning long-term dependencies.el
