The production of high-purity hydrogen requires the effective removal of undesirable components, such as carbon dioxide (CO₂), from H₂-rich gas streams. The use of adsorbent and catalytic materials in powder form may be associated with high pressure drop, limitations in gas diffusion, and difficulties in large-scale implementation. Conventional shaping methods, such as pellets, address some of these issues but offer limited control over the geometry and porous structure. Three-dimensional printing provides greater control over the geometry and porosity of the structures, while also enabling improvements in gas flow and heat and mass transfer. The aim of the present diploma thesis was the development of structured γ-Al₂O₃ adsorbent materials through three-dimensional printing and their evaluation for the removal of CO₂ from H₂-containing streams. For this purpose, cylindrical structures with gyroid geometry were prepared using a photopolymerization technique (DLP), followed by thermal treatment up to 600 °C for the removal of the organic phase. At the same time, both γ-Al₂O₃ in powder form and the three-dimensionally printed material were surface-modified with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES), with the aim of introducing amine groups and enhancing the interaction with CO₂. The initial and modified materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, N₂ adsorption-desorption, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results showed that the main crystalline phase of γ-Al₂O₃ was preserved after three-dimensional printing, thermal treatment, and silanization. Shaping into a 3D structure caused a relatively small decrease in the specific surface area, from 52 to 48 m²/g, whereas modification with APTES led to a significant decrease in the accessi-ble surface area and pore volume. At the same time, the ATR-FTIR and TGA results confirmed the pres-ence of APTES both in the powder and in the three-dimensionally printed material, indicating that the surface modification was successfully achieved. The adsorption behavior of the materials was evaluated through breakthrough curves and temperature-programmed CO₂ desorption. The unmodified γ-Al₂O₃ powder and the 3D γ-Al₂O₃ exhibited the same adsorption capacity, equal to 4.6 μmol gads⁻¹, indicating that three-dimensional shaping did not reduce the CO₂ capture capacity. After modification with APTES, the adsorption capacity increased significantly, reaching 40.3 μmol gads⁻¹ for 3D γ-Al₂O₃-APTES and 54.8 μmol gads⁻¹ for γ-Al₂O₃ 600 °C-APTES. In addition, the TPD experiments showed that more than 96% of the adsorbed CO₂ on the modified materials could be desorbed by heating up to 80 °C. Overall, the results demonstrate that three-dimensionally printed γ-Al₂O₃ structures can be used as structured adsorbents for CO₂/H₂ separation, while surface modification with APTES significantly enhances the CO₂ capture capacity.
