This Diploma Thesis deals with an innovative idea of how to implement the fractional order model of arterial viscoelasticity. This new approach has many advantages, as it offers a fully integrated circuit, which is fully electronically controlled. More specifically, the model consists of two resistors and a fractional-order inductor. With the topology that we have implemented, we have the ability to electronically control both the inductor’s order and its impedance. This means that we have complete electronic control over the characteristics of the coil resulting in a topology that we can realize many cases. Also with the method we present we have complete electronic control and the value of resistance. This means we do not have to use passive resistors to implement the model. In addition, this topology offers us the possibility to implement in silicon without the use of extra passive elements except two external capacitors. The method we used to implement is supported by the Continued Fraction Expansion 2nd − order approach. This means that we have a simpler circuit compared to the complexity that would have with a larger approach class. Initially, we had to design the basic unit for implementing a fractional-order inductor, which is a fractional order integrator. Because we have seven different orders (8 different cases), we used an extra external gradient that gave us an electronic control over the element’s order. In addition, in order to have electronic control of the impedance of the inductor in the first step and the resistors in the second step, we used operational transconductance amplifiers ineach case. We have all joined together and implemented the layout. The performance of the proposed scheme is verified through post-layout simulations using Cadence and the Design Kit provided by the Austria Mikro Systeme (AMS) 0.35µm CMOS technology process.el
