Spacecraft’s thermal-control systems include different types of radiators. Radiators must reject waste heat dissipated by the electronics system components plus any radiant heat loads from the environment or other spacecraft surfaces. Since spacecraft applications demand lightweight, high stiffness to weight ratio and high tailorable thermal conductivity, sandwich panels with composite face-sheets and a lightweight core are preferred. This thesis investigates the performance of a passive structure radiator with specific environmental and structural requirements. At first, a comparison study for estimating the temperature-dependent effective thermal conductivity of the radiator panel, in thickness direction, is considered. Then, one-dimensional heat transfer analysis is performed to determine the maximum temperatures of the panel’s outside facings, which must be in the allowable temperature limits. For ensuring structural integrity of the panel under dynamic loading, free vibration analysis is used to establish the required fundamental frequency. Finally, structural optimization of the radiator panel is obtained based on the fundamental frequency, thermal capabilities and stiffness to weight ratio.el
