Abstract

The Greek manufacturing sector is considered one of the driving forces of the Greek economy; however, it is characterized by inefficient organization, low technological knowledge, and generates minimal income. Greek industries need to restructure and gain competitive advantages. The main purpose of this present dissertation is to develop a comprehensive model that enables experts to study the relationships between ambidexterity, its antecedents and its outcomes such as business performance and strategic flexibility. The main objectives of this dissertation are: a) to provide an updated and analytical review of the literature in recent years on the subject of ambidexterity, in order to map and consolidate all the current knowledge on this subject; b) to identify and analyze the prerequisites of ambidexterity; c) to clarify the impact of ambidexterity on business performance and categorize these results; d) to measure the contribution of these results using analytical methods; e) to create a theoretical framework and design a conceptual model that indicates areas requiring further analysis; and f) after identifying gaps and inconsistencies in the existing literature, to propose new avenues for future research in the field of ambidexterity. The research methodology will involve the utilization of a structured questionnaire for data collection purposes. Throughout the questionnaire, a seven-point Likert scale will be employed to measure all items. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) will be utilized to assess the factorial structure of the model's latent factors and the factor loadings of individual items. Subsequently, Cronbach’s alpha coefficient will be calculated to evaluate the reliability of the scales. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) will then be applied to ascertain the psychometric properties of the model. Following this, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) procedures will be implemented, utilizing the maximum likelihood method, and the program AMOS will be utilized to estimate causal relations between latent variables, thereby confirming or refuting the hypotheses presented. This dissertation is the first of its kind in Greece to connect both the antecedents of ambidexterity along with ambidexterity itself, and subsequently, the impact that ambidexterity itself has on business performance and strategic flexibility. Furthermore, it is the first to provide such a comprehensive and extensive literature review on various firms across Greece of different sizes on this particular subject, which can serve as a guide for other similar research in the future. This dissertation not only offers valuable insights for academia but also provides implications for the Greek economy and society. It represents the inaugural study to quantitatively analyze the interrelations among antecedents, ambidexterity, and their outcomes in a comprehensive and analytical manner. It is the first to quantitatively and in such a comprehensive and analytical manner examine the above relationships, and its results will be useful not only for Greek industries but also for Greek society and the economy.
