| el |
| dc.description.translatedabstract | In the particular Master Thesis, the photophysical properties of a series of quadrupolar conjugated molecule dyes are investigated via several techniques of fluorescence spectroscopy. The molecules of the current study with the code names 1, 3 and PK452 belong in the boarder family of push – pull molecules and they are characterized by a linear, symmetrical D – π – A – π –D structure type. They contain the same benzobisthiazole core of which acts as electron acceptor and they are differentiated as for the type of the conjugated π – bridges and the number of aliphatic carbon atoms that are located at the end of the donor branches increasing not only the total length of the molecule but their electron donating ability, as well. The above molecules where synthesized by Dr. Peter Hrobárik’s team at the University of Bratislava, Slovakia. In the current experimental study the above molecules have been studied mainly in solutions in a wide range of aprotic solvents of increasing polarity. The viscosity effects were taken into account too. The main target of the studies was the investigation of the behavior of molecules 1, 3 and PK452 in a series of different environments and the direct comparison of their optical properties. It is important to understand the intramolecular excitation energy migration mechanisms, the number and nature of the excited states which produce the emitted radiation and finally the relationship between the electron delocalization, the geometric fluctuations of the molecular structure and the ability to exhibit symmetry breaking of the one photon allowed – excite state. Studies of both basic steady – state measurements and time resolved analysis were performed both on the nanosecond – picosecond time scale with the use of Time – Correlated – Single – Photon – Counting technique and the femtosecond timescale with the upconversion method for the detection of the dynamics of ultrashort mechanisms. The push – pull quadrupolar chromophores of D – π – A – π – D type, as well as their multibranched derivates in general, has been extensively studied over the last decade. The better understanding of the intramolecular mechanisms that take place, the environmental effects and their dynamic evolution in the ultrashort timescale have been a matter of momentous interest for the development of modern technologies. Some significant applications are indentified in the field of photonics with the development of opticoelectronic devices, such as photovoltaic collar cells, organic field transistors and electroluminescence devices. Finally, the exhibition of non – linear properties, such as the significant high two – photon absorption cross section makes the above molecules appropriate for non – linear studies and they find use in technologies such as microfabrication, three-dimensional data storage, photodynamic therapy and two-photon fluorescence microscopy. | el |
