This paper focuses on an attemptive approach to the principle Adorno calls “principle of exchange”. Exchange may be legitimately understood as a category of political economy. Nevertheless, the term “principle” suggests the use of this principle within the framework of a philosophy of consciousness. On the basis of this antithesis is the observation made by Habermas reflected, namely that Adorno somewhere along the way abandoned the critique of political economy in favor of a critique of a form of consciousness. Through our researching the being of value according to Marx -including a comparison with Simmel’s theory of value presented in his book "Philosophy of Money"- we were led to an interpretation contrary to Habermas: the view of value and therefore also of exchange as a real abstraction (Realabstraktion), a subjective-objective category. Adorno seems to be even in his later work decisively influenced by a certain reading of Marx.el
