This Master's Thesis dissertation focuses on analyzing and presenting the theory of Non Extensive Statistical Mechanics of C. Tsallis as well as the classification, into equivalence classes, of the entropic functionals and the corresponding probability density functions that optimize them, for every entropic form that fullfills a number of specific conditions. Furthermore, the analysis of an application for these theories on a complex system, helps to understand the parameters which determine whether one should select the classical statistical mechanics framework, or the non extensive statistical mechanics to correctly describe the system. The aim of this thesis is to describe the mathematical foundations of a more accurate statistical description of the behaviour of non ergodic complex systems than the one which can be achieved through the classical Boltzmann-Gibbs approach.el
