Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that significantly affects motor function, including the mechanisms involved in speech production. The aim of the present undergraduate thesis is to investigate verbal and non-verbal oral motor functions, as well as diadochokinetic performance, in patients diagnosed with ALS. The study sample consisted of 36 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of ALS. Assessment was conducted through the recording and analysis of performance in verbal and non-verbal tasks, as well as diadochokinetic tasks, in order to identify difficulties associated with the disease. The collected data are presented and analyzed using tables and time-based measurements. In addition, a review of the literature is provided regarding the characteristics of ALS, the speech-language pathology assessment procedures commonly employed, and the available therapeutic interventions for the management of communication and swallowing disorders. The findings highlight the importance of early speech-language pathology assessment and intervention in maintaining functional communication and improving the quality of life of individuals with ALS.
