| dc.description.translatedabstract | This thesis examines how the first generation of sustainability reports is taking shape in practice under the new regulatory framework of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). The research aims to identify key trends and variations in European corporate sustainability reporting by analyzing a pan-European dataset of 2,109 reports from the Sustainability Reporting Navigator (SRN) and conducting a supplementary content analysis of 30 selected reports covering the 2024 and 2025 financial years. The methodology employs descriptive and exploratory statistical analysis, including frequency analysis, measures of central tendency and dispersion, and comparative grouping. The results reveal a marked geographical and sectoral concentration of reports, with Germany and France leading the rankings and the financial sector being the most represented. The average report length is 113.4 pages, and a comparison between the first and second years of implementation shows no significant change in average size. Content analysis reveals a high prevalence of KPIs, Scope 3 emissions, ESG risks/IROs, and double materiality, whereas greater variation is observed regarding climate transition plans and external assurance. The findings indicate that the core requirements of the new framework are already evident in the first year of implementation, while further maturation relates more to the depth and quality of the information than to the mere presence of the relevant disclosures. | |
