This thesis dissertation focuses on the diachronic reception of Fyodor Dostoevsky's oeuvre in Greek theatre during the 20th and the early 21st centuries. Through the analysis of stage adaptations of his prose works, the dissertation investigates the dramaturgical, translational, directorial, and interpretative choices, as well as the reception of these performances by audiences and critics. The research highlights the enduring influence of the Russian author on the Greek stage, the challenges inherent in the theatrical transposition of a multifaceted work, and the diverse strategies adopted by Greek creators. It is argued that theatrical adaptation constitutes an intertextual and interartistic creation, wherein translation plays a pivotal role. The dissertation's methodology combines historical, textual, comparative, and performance-centered analysis, utilizing archival material and theoretical approaches such as Gérard Genette's narratology. Despite the inherent research challenges, the study illuminates the dynamic relationship between literature and the stage, as well as the modes of appropriation of the Dostoevskian world by Greek artists.
