| dc.description.abstract | Η εκπόνηση της παρούσας διπλωματικής εργασίας πραγματοποιήθηκε στα πλαίσια του μεταπτυχιακού προγράμματος «Ωκεανογραφία – Εξερεύνηση, αποτύπωση και διαχείριση θαλάσσιου περιβάλλοντος» του τμήματος Γεωλογίας Πατρών. Σκοπός της μελέτης είναι η κοκκομετρική και γεωχημική ανάλυση σε θαλάσσια ιζήματα, ο πυρήνας των οποίον συλλέχθηκε από τα Αμπελάκια, στην Σαλαμίνα. Επίσης αξιολογήθηκε η ρύπανση, καθώς στην ευρύτερη περιοχή λαμβάνουν χώρα πλήθος δραστηριοτήτων που επιβαρύνουν το λιμάνι σε βαρέα μέταλλα. Στην αρχή της εργασίας γίνεται μια βιβλιογραφική αναφορά στα βαρέα μέταλλα σε θαλάσσια ιζήματα αλλά και στην γεωλογία της περιοχής μελέτης. Στην συνέχεια ακολουθεί η περιγραφή των εργασιών πεδίου αλλά και η μεθοδολογία των εργαστηριακών αναλύσεων. Στον πυρήνα μελέτης εξετάστηκε εκτενώς ο λιθολογικός τύπος των ιζημάτων, αλλά και ο προσδιορισμός συγκέντρωσης σε βαρέα μέταλλα και οργανικού άνθρακα (C organic). Η ρύπανση στα ιζήματα αξιολογήθηκε σύμφωνα με τον δείκτη γεωσυσσώρευσης (Igeo), ενώ ελέγχθηκε κατά πόσο οι συγκεντρώσεις τους σε βαρέα μέταλλα βρίσκονται εντός των ασφαλών ορίων που έχει ορισθεί από την Συνθήκη της Βαρκελώνης, από την Ευρωπαϊκή ένωση. Επιπροσθέτως, ο πυρήνας μελέτης συγκρίθηκε με άλλους δύο πυρήνες από τον Πειραιά κυρίως ως προς τις συγκεντρώσεις τους σε βαρέα μέταλλα. Εν κατακλείδι, η εργασία αυτή έχει ως σκοπό την μελέτη της περιοχής σχετικά με την κοκκομετρία αλλά και την κατανόηση και συσχέτιση των βαρέων μετάλλων με την ρύπανση των Αμπελακίων στην Σαλαμίνα που συνδέονται με τις ανθρωπογενείς δραστηριότητες που λαμβάνουν χώρα εκεί. Ενός περιβάλλοντος που εδώ και δεκαετίες προκαλεί το ενδιαφέρον διάφορων ερευνητών, ενώ αφήνει περιθώριο για μελλοντική, ακόμα πιο εκτεταμένη μελέτη. | |
| dc.description.translatedabstract | The preparation of this thesis was carried out within the framework of the postgraduate programme "Oceanography - Exploration, mapping and management of the marine environment" of the Department of Geology of Patras. The aim of the study is the particle size and geochemical analysis of marine sediments, the core of which was collected from Ampelakia, in Salamina. The pollution was also evaluated, as a number of activities are taking place in the area that pollute the port with heavy metals. At the beginning of the paper, a bibliographical reference is made on heavy metals in marine sediments and the geology of the study area. This is followed by a description of the fieldwork and the methodology of the laboratory analyses. In the core study, the lithological type of the sediments was extensively investigated, as well as the determination of heavy metal and organic carbon (C organic) concentrations. The pollution in the sediments was evaluated according to the geoconcentration index (Igeo), and it was checked whether their heavy metal concentrations are within the safe limits set by the Barcelona Convention, by the European Union. In addition, the study core was compared with two other cores from Piraeus mainly in terms of their heavy metal concentrations. In conclusion, this paper aims to study the area regarding the granulometry and to understand and correlate the heavy metals with the pollution of the Ampelakia in Salamis associated with the anthropogenic activities taking place there. An environment that has been of interest to various researchers for decades, while leaving room for future, even more extensive study. | |
