Blockchain technology is a technology that has been increasingly used in recent years. This concept was initially created in 1991 by Stuart Haber and W. Scott Stornetta, but it became famous much later with the creation of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin in 2009, and since then it has evolved at a rapid pace. This technology is increasingly used due to some desirable characteristics. Some of these characteristics include “decentralization”, meaning there is no central authority controlling the transactions, “distribution”, meaning everyone has a copy of all transactions and no one can modify them, which means that blockchain also provides “security”. In this thesis, the Ethereum blockchain network has been used because it allows the creation of distributed applications (dApps) on the blockchain. A supply chain, meaning, a system that starts from a supplier and ending with the sale of a product to the final consumer, can significantly benefit from blockchain technology. Due to its characteristics, this technology can help a supply chain in areas such as such as product and raw material tracking, for example with a blockchain application, that would count, track and hold information on inventories, monitoring the transportation path of a product, facilitating easier exchange of information, and other areas that will be discussed below. The program created in this thesis, which operates on the Ethereum blockchain, asks the user to log into the application and displays certain functions depending on who the user is. One of these functions is the purchase or sale of a product, which is common for almost every user that logs in, or the printing of a receipt, which is again available to everyone. Some of the technologies used include the Python programming language in which the application was designed, the web3.py library responsible for interacting with Ethereum, and Ganache, which is a tool for creating a local test blockchain network. Finally, the Solidity programming language was used to create the code that runs on the Ethereum blockchain.
