| dc.description.translatedabstract | This dissertation examines the potential use of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps as a methodological tool for modelling the operation of financial flows under conditions of uncertainty, non-linearity and causal interdependence. The central research problem concerns the complexity of modern financial systems, where variables such as interest rates, banking liquidity, credit risk, availability of financing, macroeconomic uncertainty and loan demand interact dynamically and often in a non-linear manner. Although traditional econometric and statistical models remain valuable analytical tools, they present important limitations regarding the representation of feedback mechanisms, the integration of expert qualitative knowledge and the interpretability of results. Within this context, the dissertation develops a theoretically grounded and computationally applicable framework based on Fuzzy Cognitive Maps. The study first presents the theoretical background of financial flows, fuzzy logic and Fuzzy Cognitive Maps. It then critically evaluates existing approaches to financial system modelling, focusing on their methodological limitations. Subsequently, an FCM model is designed, in which key economic variables are represented as nodes and their causal relationships are expressed through weighted directed links. The proposed model is implemented computationally in Python and applied to simulation scenarios in order to examine the dynamic behavior of the system, the evolution of individual nodes and the convergence process. The findings indicate that Fuzzy Cognitive Maps can serve as a useful interpretable tool for simulation and decision support, especially in cases where full empirical modelling is difficult, incomplete or insufficient. The computational prototype demonstrates the capacity of the method to monitor the evolution of financial variables, analyze alternative scenarios and provide transparent causal interpretation of system behavior. The dissertation does not claim that FCMs can replace classical empirical financial models. Rather, it argues that they can complement them by offering a flexible, transparent and causally oriented modelling framework for analyzing financial flows under uncertainty. | |
