Abstract
The Digital Euro is planned to be Europe’s first foray into Central Bank Digital Currencies, or CBDCs. This work presents an overview of the current state of research on CBDCs in general, and the-Digital Euro in particular, as well as projects from other central banks. Looking into the European-Central Bank’s roadmap and plans for the project, I also present some criticisms regarding some of-the promised features of the Digital Euro, especially regarding the coexistence of the online/offline-functionality, and their practical feasibility. The final conclusion being that at this stage the project-might need more design work to be practical and achieve its stated goals.
