In this dissertation we analyze the phenomenon of Great Moderation as observed by the international and domestic research community. The Great Moderation determines the decline in macroeconomic instability and the decline in volatility in total economic activity. The decline in volatility or otherwise increased uncer- tainty is mainly found in the variables of inflation and wider economic activity as measured by GDP. The four determinants of uncertainty reduction are improved production, better inventory management planning, reduced uncertainty about investment in dwellings and "good luck". We study empirically the case of Gre- ece where we apply tests for structural changes in the two main macroeconomic variables of inflation and GDP. We apply the test of Bai and Perron (2003) to e- stimate structural breaks in the time series. The test indicates 4 structural breaks in inflation variability and 3 in the rate of change of GDP.el
