This research was carried out in order to study the phonological development of Greek-speaking preschool children (3;0-6;0 years). Specifically, it is divided into two parts: the theoretical part, which includes the literature review on the phonological and linguistic development of children of the examined age group, and the research part which contains the data of the research carried out as well as the results obtained from this. The administration of the test took the form of an evaluation, in order to identify the acquired phonemes and consonant clusters in each child. For this purpose, the test of Babatsouli E. (2019) entitled "Phonological assessment of Greek for children" was used. 110 preschool children (3;0-6;0 years) participated in the research. Visits were made to facilities such as kindergartens daycare stations. In addition, some of the assessments were carried out at home. The purpose of the study was to investigate the acquired phonemes and clusters found in each age group of the sample, as well as to compare the results between these groups in terms of (a) the total number of words produced correctly, (b) the Percentage of Consonants Correct (PCC), (c) the phonetic inventory and (d) the set of consonant clusters found in the sample. According to the results of the research, the population of children aged 3;0-4;0 years did not present a statistically significant difference with the population of children aged 4;1-5;0 years regarding the Percentage of Consonants Correct (PCC) and the total number of consonant clusters. On the contrary, statistically significant differences in those parameters were apparent between the age groups of 3;0 – 4;0 and 5;1- 6;0, and 4;1 – 5;0 and 5;1 – 6;0. Furthermore, no statistically significant difference was found between children of all ages in terms of phonetic inventory. It is concluded that in order for the above findings to be generalized and considered reliable, a larger sample of children from different regions of Greece needs to be evaluated.
