The present thesis deals with the problem of target tracking by cooperative unmanned aerial vehicles, the so called UAVs. By introducing a new angle, we reconsider and extend existing results regarding the stability of the standoff tracking of a stationary target by a single UAV; furthermore, we provide a new compact condition for global asymptotic stability. On the basis of the above, we reexamine the so called phase separation problem within the coordinated standoff tracking context and we obtain globally asymptotically stable guidance laws which can treat simultaneously the convergence toward the desired standoff radius, the desired heading and the proper angular difference between the tracking team of UAVs. Finally, we extend the previous results to the case of a moving target. The proposed guidance laws can track successfully, but not forever, of course, even a slightly accelerating target. In the analysis, we make use of the concept of total stability. Simulations show the feasibility and efficiency of the guidance laws.el
