Μέθοδος: Πραγματοποιήθηκε ανασκόπηση της βιβλιογραφίας στις βάσεις δεδομένων PubMed, CINAHL και SCOPUS με λέξεις κλειδιά “TENS” “TECAR” “HIILT” “LLLT” ή “Lower Level Laser Treatment” “ESWT” και “Lower Back Pain”, “Acute Low Back Pain” ή “Chronic Low Back Pain”. Οι παρεμβάσεις που βασίζονται στο TECAR (Transfer of Electric Current for Capacitive and Resistive Heating).
Back pain is a musculoskeletal condition that affects a significant percentage of people in the general population, with its main symptom being pain but also a reduction in functionality and overall quality of life. Various conservative treatment methods applied by physical therapists have been proposed for its treatment, including electrophysical modalities. However, there is no review in the literature that compiles data on all electrophysical methods used to treat the condition. Objective: The purpose of this thesis is to research the most recent data in the literature to investigate the effectiveness of electrophysical modalities in the treatment of low back pain. Method: Literature was reviewed in PubMed, CINAHL and SCOPUS databases with keywords “TENS” “TECAR” “HIILT” “LLLT” OR “Lower Intensity Laser Treatment” “ESWT” AND “Lower Back Pain”, “Acute Low Back Pain” OR “Chronic Low Back Pain”. Conclusions: Based on the results of the studies included in this review, TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) was found to be effective for both long-term pain reduction and improvement of functionality. Interventions based on TECAR (Transfer of Electric Current for Capacitive and Resistive Heating) and laser had positive results in both reducing pain and increasing functionality. Finally, the most effective method seems to be ESWT (Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy) since it gives positive results both in pain and in functionality in the short and long term as assessed by the follow-ups of the research.
