Abstract
Basal ganglia are brain structures that are mainly involved in motor control, acting as a "brake" to prevent the initiation of new movements. They also play a role in motor learning, executive functions, behaviors and emotions. Basal ganglia dysfunctions are responsible motor and psychiatric disorders. Recent research has focused on how the application of an electromagnetic field to the structures of the basal ganglia can be used as treatment for these disorders. The results show that the mobility created by the microwave frequencies applied to the nerve cells of these structures can reverse cell dysfunction. The aim of this thesis is to design of an antenna system that creates such an electric field in the basal ganglia that can mobilize dysfunctional nerve cells.
