| dc.description.translatedabstract | The aim of this thesis is the static analysis of a sample of the ransomware-type malware, Ryuk, as well as the development of efficient and targeted YARA rules for its detection. Initially, a brief overview of the main types of malware is provided, analyzing their fundamental operating principles. Next, the analysis methodologies employed by experts for detecting such malicious programs are described. Specifically, the significance of YARA rules as a key tool for detecting malicious software is discussed. Following this, a description of the Ryuk ransomware is given, along with information highlighting the fact that it is part of a larger attack campaign named TripleThread. The static analysis of Ryuk is then conducted using the reverse engineering tool, Ghidra. At the end of the analysis, YARA rules are developed based on the findings and evaluated through comparison with 30 samples/executables of Ryuk to ensure their effectiveness in detecting the malware. | |
