Bryant Empathy Index for Children and Αdolescents, Bryant, 1982. The Matson Evaluation of Social Skills with Youngsters, MESSY. Matson et al, 1983).
The present thesis investigated the effectiveness of a 10-session psychoeducationalprogram incorporating sensory and theatrical play for enhancing the social skills of childrenaged 9–11 years. The program also included three sessions with the parents/guardians of thechildren in the intervention group. A total of 26 children participated in the study, with 13assigned to the intervention group and 13 to the control group. Data were collected usingthree scales: the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES-10, Rosenberg, 1965), the Bryant Empathy Index for Children and Adolescents (Bryant, 1982), and the Matson Evaluation ofSocial Skills with Youngsters (MESSY, Matson et al., 1983). Statistical analysis showed thatthe intervention had a positive effect in reducing the index of social skills deficits, while nostatistically significant changes were observed in the indices of empathy and self-esteem. Thefindings highlight the need for further investigation into the effectiveness ofpsychoeducational interventions based on sensory and theatrical play, with larger samplesizes and follow-up assessments.
