Social and health crises, wars, the retreat from democracy, and many other volatile situations have led humanity to question institutions and even to indifference toward moral imperatives and laws, resulting in their degradation. Businesses, as an integral part of the social fabric, have sought to respond to the conditions of uncertainty and to survive. One of the key areas on which they are focusing their efforts is the redefinition of their role and their responsibility towards society as a whole. It is clear that profitability and financial efficiency alone are not sufficient as fundamental factors for business sustainability; rather, social legitimacy is the critical factor for their sustainability and moral validity. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a blend of definitions, primarily characterized by its dynamic formation according to the prevailing social, economic, and cultural conditions. The core of CSR is the premise that every business has a moral responsibility towards society. It is at this very point that understanding the contribution of Kant's work is significant regarding the ethical dimension of CSR, focusing on the concepts of duty, the categorical imperative, and respect for humanity as an end in itself, beyond any instrumental or utilitarian approach. Corporate Social Responsibility, therefore, is nothing less than a moral act, detached from profit and committed to duty and respect for reason. In practice, however, it is implemented differently because it is often interpreted subjectively, primarily in terms of practical utilitarianism. Going even further, the question arises whether all businesses, even those that produce or trade ethically harmful products, are morally and socially legitimate to implement CSR activities.
