Abstract

The aim of the specific study is to investigate the degree of burnout of primary education teachers in the prefecture of Achaia. More specifically, it examines the effect of three dimensions of burnout on their mental health: a) emotional exhaustion, b) depersonalization, c) reduced personal achievements. The research was conducted with the use of the quantitative method and the questionnaire was used as the research tool. More specifically, the data collection was done with the tool Maslach burnout inventory - Educator' s survey. The sample consisted of 103 teachers in Primary Education in the prefecture of Achaia. The sampling followed was non-probability. The assessment of the degree of the effect of the dimensions of professional burnout on the mental health of teachers was done through the structural equation model. Based on the research results, it was found that Primary Education teachers show moderate levels of burnout, since moderate levels of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and achievement were observed. The three dimensions of burnout that were studied (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, reduced personal achievements) had a statistically significant effect on the mental health of teachers. In particular, depersonalization and personal achievements primarily affect the mental health of teachers in the Prefecture of Achaia, while emotional exhaustion has a smaller effect but remains statistically significant.
